Ok, huh???? How does the girl born in Boston, raised in Vermont and study-abroad-ed in France end up with a Mid-Atlantic accent? I’ve only lived in DC for two years!

Apparently, I have a NORTHERN accent.
“That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.”
Well, they this born-near-Albany, first-ten-years-in-northern-NH, six-years-in-Philadelphia, eight-years-in-Vermont, college-in-northern-Ohio, last-sixteen-years-in-NYC, married-to-a-Southerner guy right!
Sorry, bad editing. The italics should only be on “this” and there should be a “got” after “they”.
You can’t fool me, you New Englander! Katie thinks that “on” rhymes with “dawn” instead of “John.” Can we all point and laugh now? Also, could you say “wicked” again?
We were talking about accents the other day and how I’ve intentionally tried to get rid of mine. While this quiz tells me I’m northern (which I am, being from Near Detroit), it doesn’t do a whole lot for that lovely midwestern nasal sound. I really try not to speak that way and my brother even makes fun of me for it. Therefore, my accent is a hybrid of regular, intentional non-nasal and Canadian, from the days when we used to pretend we were Canadian.
“On” does rhyme with “dawn”!
Cheryl, since when is Detroit in “the north”?
It is according to the map they gave me. :)
Hmm. Well, they said I have a Philly accent too, so what do they know?
